What If This Is As Good As It Gets?

If you are familiar with Jack Nicholson, you know this is a question he asked once in a movie. He and a room full of clients were in the waiting room at his therapist’s office and he asked the room, “What if this is as good as it gets?” You can imagine how horrifying that was for the clients waiting their turn to go in and talk about their issues.

Movie’s aside, what if this is as good as it gets? Right now, we are in the midst of a global pandemic and many are questioning if we will ever make it to a new normal way of living that isn’t a certain risk for a good number of our population. This state of limbo, of not knowing, has many people putting things on hold. But what if this is it? What if this is where we are for the next 18 months or longer? 18 months is the longest guesstimate of having this thing somewhat managed with treatment or a vaccine that I’ve heard.

So, I ask Jack’s question, not to horrify you, but because many folks facing divorce or separation are wondering if now is the right time. And I’m here to tell you that it is.
